Adding Light to the Darkness

Building as Response to Destruction

In 1956, terrorists attacked the agricultural school in Kfar Chabad, Israel, murdering five students and their teacher. The village was devastated. Some wanted to leave.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe's response was not theological explanation. It was a directive: "Do not flee the battlefield. Expand the village and its institutions." And then the famous words: "בהמשך הבנין תנוחמו"—"By your continued building will you be comforted."

On the very spot where blood was spilled, the community built Yad HaChamisha—a printing house that has published Torah for generations. In 1986, they built a full-scale replica of 770 Eastern Parkway at the Rebbe's direction and personal expense.

This is the precedent. This is the model. This is our mission.

Our Response

Rabbi Eli Schlanger הי״ד was murdered while standing at his post, engaged in Mivtza Tefillin at a public Chanukah candle-lighting celebration. He died doing exactly what he lived for—connecting Jews with their heritage.

The Eli Schlanger Memorial Campus carries forward everything he lived for:

Transforming a place of corporate commerce into a beacon of Jewish life, learning, and chesed

Creating an integrated ecosystem where profitable enterprises support mission-driven programs

Building community that spans generations

Where there was darkness, we will build light. Where there was destruction, we will build community. This is his legacy, alive and growing.
